Okinawa's favorite virtual idol is making a comeback. CHURA MIKU STREET 2026 will run from Sunday, November 1 through Sunday, December 13, turning the streets of Naha, centered on Kokusai Street and now extending into the Shuri area, into a Hatsune Miku themed playground built around local culture, food, and sightseeing.
The name blends the Okinawan word "chura," meaning beautiful, with "Miku Street," a nod to Kokusai Street's designation as Prefectural Route 39. Last year's inaugural edition, which stuck mostly to Kokusai Street, drew strong turnout with a stamp rally, collaboration menus at local restaurants, pop up shops, and goods blending traditional Okinawan crafts with Miku's design. This year's event builds on that success and adds a meaningful new layer: the restoration of Shuri Castle's main hall. General public viewing of the rebuilt main hall opens November 23, and the event is designed to give Miku fans, including many who've never had much exposure to Shuri or Ryukyuan history, a fresh entry point into that story.
Street Walking From Kokusai to Shuri

A dedicated stamp rally and food collaboration campaign will connect Kokusai Street to the Shuri area throughout the event. As participants follow Miku through the streets of Naha, they'll have the chance to engage with the history, culture, crafts, and cuisine of Shuri Castle and its surrounding neighborhoods. Rather than simply checking off tourist spots, the campaign is built to help visitors uncover the stories behind each location, offering a deeper way to experience Okinawa on foot.
The Look of This Year's Miku
The main visual comes from illustrator Shishigami (しし上), an in-house illustrator at the event's organizing company, who designed Miku's outfit around motifs of Eisa dance, Shuri Castle, and deigo flowers.

Shishigami shared their excitement about the project:
"また初音ミクさんのイベントに関わることができて大変光栄です。今回はエイサーと首里城、デイゴのモチーフで衣装デザインをしたので去年の琉装風衣装のミクさんとはまた違った沖縄らしさを感じていただけたら嬉しいです。"
("I'm truly honored to be involved with a Hatsune Miku event again. This time I designed the costume around motifs of Eisa dance, Shuri Castle, and deigo flowers, so I hope you'll feel a different kind of Okinawan charm compared to last year's Ryukyu-style costume.")
The shoes in that design were created in collaboration with shoe and bag brand DIANA, developed by Diana Co., Ltd., which is also joining the project to help support the Shuri Castle restoration effort through fashion. Diana Co., Ltd. offered its own comment on the partnership:
("We are truly delighted to take part in CHURA MIKU STREET 2026. This time, we are handling the shoe design for the event while also contributing to efforts tied to the restoration of Shuri Castle. Shuri Castle is a symbol of Okinawa and an important piece of cultural heritage. Through this project, we hope to convey our support for its restoration through fashion and expand that circle of support with as many people as possible. We hope you enjoy CHURA MIKU STREET 2026 along with all the programming still to come.")
Two more illustrators contributed sub visuals for the campaign. Maple (maple), who describes their style as centered on drawing energetic girl characters, created a piece celebrating the crossover between Miku and her hometown, saying:
"また沖縄に携われるお仕事ができて嬉しいです!大好きな初音ミクと地元がコラボとのことで嬉しくてめっちゃ頑張りました!"
("I'm so happy to get to work on something connected to Okinawa again! Since it's a collaboration between my favorite, Hatsune Miku, and my hometown, I was thrilled and worked really hard on it!")

Fukukitsune (福きつね), an illustrator known for light novel illustrations, character designs for children's books and games, and ongoing manga series, designed a swimsuit visual imagining Miku enjoying Okinawa's beautiful ocean, and shared:
"今回、沖縄の美しい海や、そこで楽しむミクさんの姿を想像しながら楽しく描かせていただきました。そして水着のデザインから担当させていただけて、とても嬉しかったです!イラストを見て「沖縄の海に潜ってみたい!」と思っていただけたら幸いです!"
("This time, I had a lot of fun drawing while imagining Okinawa's beautiful ocean and Miku enjoying herself there. I was also really happy to be in charge of the swimsuit design itself! I'd be delighted if this illustration makes people think, 'I want to dive into the ocean in Okinawa!'")
