The Browser Company, the innovative force behind the Arc browser, has unveiled its latest creation: Dia, an AI-first browser now available in beta for macOS users. Designed to redefine how we interact with the internet, Dia integrates artificial intelligence at its core, offering a seamless, intuitive, and highly personalized browsing experience.
Unlike traditional browsers, Dia is built from the ground up to function as a "browsing partner" rather than just a tool. Based on Google's open-source Chromium project, it maintains a familiar look and feel while introducing groundbreaking AI-driven features. The centerpiece of Dia is its built-in AI chatbot, accessible directly through the URL bar. This chatbot goes beyond simple search functionality, allowing users to engage in dynamic interactions with their open tabs, summarize uploaded files, and even draft content based on web pages in real time.
“Dia isn’t just a browser with AI tacked on—it’s an entirely new environment where AI and web browsing merge to create something smarter and more personal... We learned from Arc that users want simplicity and speed, and Dia delivers that with AI that adapts to your needs,” reflects The Browser Company’s vision for Dia, as articulated by CEO Josh Miller in discussions about the browser’s beta launch.
Key Features of Dia

Chat with Your Tabs: Dia’s AI can analyze open tabs, answer questions about their content, and generate drafts in the tone of specific web pages. Whether summarizing a YouTube video or comparing information across multiple sites, the AI works contextually without requiring users to leave their current tab.
Personalized AI Interaction: Users can customize the chatbot’s tone, writing style, and coding preferences, making it a tailored assistant. An optional "History" feature uses a week’s worth of browsing data to provide context-aware responses.
Skills for Automation: Dia introduces "Skills," a feature that lets users create custom code snippets to automate tasks, such as adjusting browser settings or streamlining workflows.
Speed and Simplicity: Built for performance, Dia offers a clean interface and lightning-fast navigation, addressing the complexity that limited Arc’s mainstream adoption.
A Pivot from Arc
The launch of Dia comes as The Browser Company shifts focus from its previous browser, Arc, which gained a cult following for its innovative design but struggled with a steep learning curve. Arc has now entered maintenance mode, receiving only security updates and bug fixes, while Dia takes center stage as the company’s vision for the future of browsing. Existing Arc users are granted immediate access to Dia’s beta, with a waitlist open for new users.
"Dia is our chance to fix what we got wrong with Arc," Miller explained. "We’re building something that’s approachable for everyone but still pushes the boundaries of what a browser can do."
The Future of Browsing
Dia’s release marks a bold bet on AI as the future of the internet. The Browser Company envisions a world where web browsing evolves into an "Internet Computer," blending traditional web access with AI-driven tools. While competitors like Google are integrating AI assistants like Gemini into Chrome, Dia’s deep integration sets it apart, offering a unified experience where the browser and AI work in harmony.
The beta is currently available to Arc members on macOS, with plans to expand to other platforms. Interested users can join the waitlist at The Browser Company’s website. As Dia rolls out, it promises to challenge conventional browsers and redefine productivity online.
