Romoss Recall: Nearly Half a Million Units Affected
On June 16, 2025, Shenzhen-based Romoss recalled 491,745 power bank units in China, specifically the PAC20-272 model. The recall was triggered by concerns over the raw material sources of certain battery cells, which pose overheating risks and potential combustion under extreme conditions. Shenzhen’s market regulator reported that safety concerns have led to bans on Romoss products in some Chinese universities. Romoss has urged consumers to stop using the affected units and contact the company for replacements or refunds.
Anker Recall: Over 1.1 Million Power Banks Recalled in the U.S.
On June 12, 2025, Anker Innovations recalled over 1.1 million PowerCore 10000 power banks (model A1263) in the U.S. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) cited overheating lithium-ion batteries as the cause, posing fire and burn hazards. The recall follows 19 reported incidents of fires and explosions, including two minor burn injuries and $60,700 in property damage. Consumers are urged to stop using the devices immediately and register for a free replacement via Anker’s website, submitting a photo of the unit with the model number, serial number, their name, the date, and the word “recalled” written on it.

The recalled PowerCore 10000 units were sold online through Anker’s website, Amazon, eBay, and Newegg from June 2016 to December 2022 for approximately $27. This marks Anker’s fourth power bank recall, following earlier actions for models like the 334 MagGo 10K, 321 Power Bank (5K), and 535 Power Bank (20K).
Amprius Battery Cell Certification Suspension
In a related development, Amprius, a key supplier of lithium-ion battery cells, had its 3C certification suspended in June 2025. This suspension affects all Amprius battery cell products, which are used in power banks from brands including Xiaomi, Anker, Ugreen, and Baseus.
Details from the China Quality Certification Center (CQC) reveal that multiple APEX (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. battery models have been suspended as of June 10, 2025. The reason for the suspension is "The factory supervision inspection fails, there are serious non-conformities in the factory inspection (such as product consistency problems, etc.), or the factory inspection non-conformity report does not take corrective measures within the prescribed period and is reported to the inspection team for verification and effectiveness." Notably, Apex (Wuxi) Co., Ltd., previously known as Amprius (Wuxi) Co., Ltd., was a joint venture formed by Amprius’ U.S. wholly-owned subsidiary and Wuxi Industrial Development Group Co., Ltd.

The suspension has sparked concerns about potential recalls from other brands, given Amprius’ significant role in the supply chain, which could lead to a ripple effect across the industry. Consumers are advised to check their power bank brands for any connection to Amprius cells and monitor for recall announcements.
